With spring on its way, you’re probably starting to plan some fun adventures, so I thought I’d inspire you with some photos from our microadventure in the bouldering paradise that is Fontainebleau. Located in a forest, just 50km south of Paris, we paid a brief visit to this natural beauty on our three-week tour of Europe last summer. And boy are we glad we did! Widely considered a bouldering mecca, Font (as it’s fondly known) is littered with thousands of sandstone boulders. And with over 20,000 different routes, there’s something for all abilities. But as this was a rather unplanned visit, we had a little explore by foot.
You may wonder how you don’t get lost with so many paths to choose from. But routes are marked with brightly coloured markers on trees and rocks — super handy. We were also lucky enough to have a private guide in the form of my mom’s super energetic French-speaking German cousin. She took us on a three and a half hour walk through this mesmerising landscape. Whether you’re out for a wander, a trail run or a spot of bouldering, there are 1,600km of trail to choose from.

Who would have thought that you would find this so close to Paris, a big metropolitan city! It just shows, you just have to look around you…

I know, gorgeous, isn’t it? Just goes to show you don’t have to go far from the city to find some beautiful natural space 🙂
