You’d probably be glad you weren’t in the car with me. Literal shrieks of joy, high pitched squeals of delight were coming from my general direction as we drove through the beautiful wonderland known as the Alps. We were on our way to Chalet De L’Ange — an Alpine chalet run by AliKats Mountain Holidays in Morzine, France.
I’ve not been to the Alps much, but every time I come, my jaw does not leave the windowpane until we’ve arrived at our destination, the car has stopped and I have to get out. Well actually, even then, it’s hard to tear my attention away from the S.T.U.N.N.I.N.G scenery that surrounds us. And our visit to Morzine was no different.
Only a few weeks earlier, my hubby and I had been sitting in our lounge planning our three week tour around Europe and when I saw we would only be a stone’s throw away from Morzine on our return home, I grabbed the laptop and sent a very excited email to the gorgeous Kat from AliKats, asking if one of her chalets would be available. And to my delight, one was!
Epic mountains, glacial rivers and cool fort-come-castle looking things in every direction, the French Alps were everything I’d hoped and dreamed they’d be, and after a few hours driving along winding roads, we arrived at our chalet — another jaw-dropping moment! This 14-bed getaway isn’t your typical Alpine rental. No, Chalet De L’Ange has style and design at its heart.
With tons of large windows throughout the house, the architect, Herve Marullaz, designed it to make sure occupants could enjoy the gorgeous mountain views and beautiful surroundings from every room. With seven en suite bedrooms, it comes with its very own indoor hot tub, downstairs chill out room and an excellent living space filled with Danish inspired furniture.
So if you’re looking for a lovely wintery getaway over Christmas or in the new year, I’d highly recommend this place. And I know when trying to choose your accommodation, images are super important. They help you picture yourself there — kicking off your boots after a long day in the snow and settling down by the fire with a lovely glass of wine or hot chocolate. But a spec list can be really helpful too. So here are some of the things you’ll get when staying at Chalet De L’Ange:
- en suite with every bedroom
- sunken indoor hot tub with stunning views
- balconies on every side of the chalet to enjoy the views
- ski and boot room
- all your meals catered for (there are even yummy cakes every day!)
- Nintendo Wii and DVD library
- tea and coffee facilities (and honesty bar)
- five minute walk from the nearest bar, shop and restaurant
- right on the ski bus route
The chalet is actually located in Montriond, but is only a seven minute drive from Morzine, in the Haute Savoie region of south east France. If you’re flying in, the chalet is about a 1 hour 45 minute drive from Geneva Airport. That might sound quite a trek, but honestly, with those views, you won’t mind! And if you’re planning on heading to the ski lifts first thing in the morning — they’re only a six minute drive in AliKats’ shuttle bus.
If you’re visiting Chalet De L’Ange, you’re probably going to be skiing or snowboarding all day every day. But if you do find yourself wanting a little break in between, Morzine is filled with gorgeous cafés, shops, spas and is just a beautiful town to explore.
